Hello! I'm Miri Sampson, a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate with a passion for supporting individuals and families through life's challenges. My therapeutic approach centers around empathy and person-centered therapy, providing a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Professional Background: My "first career" was serving as a youth pastor for 15 years to teenagers from a wide array of ethnic, gender-identity, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds. This chapter of my life granted me the space to engage with a multitude of families from backgrounds often similar, and often not similar to my own. A constant in my life has been a deeply abiding care and concern for the precious stage of life know as "adolescence". I strive personally and professionally to provide safety, comfort, and validation to this age population. I personally hail teens as heroes among us, as I cannot image navigating the challenges and collective trauma of our culture at such a critical/tender stage of development.
ADHD and Human Sexuality: One of my primary areas of clinical interest is Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I have worked extensively with clients of all ages who are affected by ADHD, assisting them in developing coping strategies and improving their daily functioning. My goal is to empower individuals to embrace their strengths while learning to manage challenges associated with ADHD effectively.
Another area close to my heart is human sexuality. I am dedicated to creating a sex-positive and inclusive environment, where clients can openly explore their sexual identities, desires, and concerns. I firmly believe that embracing and understanding one's sexuality significantly contributes to overall mental and emotional well-being.
Empathetic Person-Centered Therapy: In my practice, I adhere to the principles of person-centered therapy, fostering a genuine and empathetic therapeutic alliance with my clients. I understand that each person's journey is unique, and I strive to meet clients where they are, tailoring my approach to their specific needs and goals. By actively listening and offering unconditional positive regard, I aim to create a collaborative space for personal growth and healing.
What to Expect in Therapy: When you choose to work with me, you can expect a warm, compassionate, humorous, low-pretense environment. Together, we will explore the challenges you face, identify your strengths, and develop practical strategies to facilitate positive change and personal growth. Whether you are struggling with relationships, seeking support for ADHD, or exploring your sexuality, I am here to guide you on your journey towards greater self-awareness and fulfillment.
Credentials and Affiliations: I hold a Washington State license as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and have completed extensive training and education in the field of psychotherapy. I am a proud member of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, where I regularly engage in continuing education to stay up-to-date with the latest research and therapeutic practices. I am a "Champion" with Duke University's Center for Women and Girl's with ADHD. I have training with Prepare and Enrich (premarital counseling) as well as the Gottman Institute.
It would be a deep honor to accompany you on your therapeutic journey. If you are ready to embark on this transformative journey, don't hesitate to reach out to schedule an appointment. Together, we can create a meaningful and lasting positive impact on your life and relationships.
