Couples Counseling Method
Neil is a Level III trained Gottman Method Therapist. This is the highest level available until one becomes a "Certified Gottman Therapist." It is important to me that I provide research-based couples counseling for two simple reasons: You know you'll be provided with methods that have worked with other couples and I know I will be counseling with interventions that have helped others break through some of their more difficult issues.
Outlined below is what to expect when you enter into couples counseling with me. It is important that the path is clearly defined for the couple entering into the counseling process. Sessions 1, 2, 3: The Assessment Phase This phase takes time. It's intentional. It's designed to understand the couples' need. We often jump in too quickly, without building the necessary foundation for couples counseling to establish clear goals. This phase can take a week or two to be completed. Gottman Method was not designed to "hit the ground running" as too often the therapist and couples attempt to quickly solve their issues without understand our combined goals & perspective.
It is important to me that all my couples know I counsel from a person-centered perspective. I hold each individual person and the couple as ONE. I trust we have a shared goal of making the relationship work and we all attend our sessions with the shared goal of building each-other up... however challenging that may feel. |
