When I anticipate meeting a teenager or adolescent for therapy I never know what “stuff” they will bring into my office. Each day, each hour, can be a completely set of new challenges. We are in an environment that is experiencing: an increase in the access of pornography, bullying beyond what our eyes once saw in a parking lot or classroom (now online), and for some, academic pressure that is out of control (or at least one's inability to manage this pressure). Just to name a few!
In my experience working with adolescents, I have found that they desire to be heard and listened to. I provide treatment that has the spirit of genuineness, acceptance and understanding during my therapeutic sessions. Working with the youth I have seen much pain, fear and rejection. I care deeply about one’s life story and the desire for growth and restoration.
I believe cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be a strong therapeutic tool that works effectively with adolescents. Our thinking can alter our feelings. Working with adolescents, we work together to establish healthier thinking patterns, which will enhance the way one feels and acts.
In my practice, adolescents are not just listened to, but are also challenged to help achieve their goals and to live a life of integrity & honesty. I firmly believe in being present for all my clients and “meeting them where they are at.”
Youth are allowed to have their therapeutic sessions be confidential, and I strongly believe in this trusted space.
If you are a concerned parent, we can all work together to gain understanding and develop a method that ensures everyone's hopes/needs are being met.
I firmly believe in equality and a therapeutic space that does not marginalize any individual. Those I serve will be treated without judgment and will be encouraged to be themselves.
